it's difficult.
that is - playing in a band for a long time is difficult. when you start writing music when you're 18 you never think about the local trenches you'll endure just trying to get 15 people to come out to your shows. for some reason it seems like it should be easier.
i'm not complaining. or maybe i am, but not too much. i create stuff with my best friends. and most of it comes out pretty well.
we played a show 2 weeks ago i left the show thinking that no-one cared. and that's the sad part of life that everyone deals with sometimes. are the things we do significant.
today i was reading about hp lovecraft's life. i'm sad to say i've never read any of his works but any fan of modern sci-fi/horror will hear his name thrown around sometimes. anyway he died poor but he's one of the most influential writers of the 19th-20th century. it's the same for jane austen.
so i wrote a song called, "you'll be famous when you're dead" i can't wait to play it.

hey everyone. it's saturday. it looks like it's going to rain but i need to mow the lawn.
oh well. here's to having too many weeds...
here's what i've into lately:
books!
song of sussanah by stephen king - - great novel. just finished it last week. it is book 6 of 7 in the dark tower series. good good stuff.
Road Fever by tim cahill -- a travel journal of Outside and Rolling Stone Magazine contributer's journey from the southern most part of south america to the northern most part of north america. very fun.
Reaching Out: The 3 Movements of the Spiritual Life by Henri J. M. Nouwen
music!
hella "Hold Your Horse Is" -- instrumental prog-punk with guitar and drums. very addictive.
mission of burma "ONoffON" -- guitar heavy punk noise
Solex "Solex Vs the Hitmeister" -- jazzy beats with a beautiful vox.
games!
i just beat Deus Ex: The Conspiracy on ps2... yeah, i know, i'm about 2 years behind.
also: SSX 3

everyone knows that not all clubs are created equal. sometimes it's the venue itself, sometimes it's the sound system, sometimes its actually the people that end up showing up and whatever's the "cool" venue at the moment.
that being said, as a band we've not always been in agreement as to which clubs we should and shouldn't play. There are clubs in deep ellum that are "A-list" clubs and some that are definately "B-list"
the A's are pretty obvious: gypsy tea room (either side), trees, curtain club, clearview, the door.
most of the others in deep ellum are probably going to get lumped in the B-list section.
so at the risk of offending club owners here's my list of my favorite B-list clubs as of late...
The Cavern - actually located in lower greeville, as of late, this has been my favorite anti-venue. The stage is super small with barely any lighting, and there's not even a sound system available. That being said it's the ultimate equalizer as a club. On a stage like that, it's the songs that matter, not the lighting or what the band is wearing. it's total DYI Indie goodness. bonus: the barstaff is super friendly, they have 2004 golden tea downstairs, two kick-ass lukeboxes, and a make-out room upstairs. all of this equals a good time.
Liquid Lounge - if you can ignore the indie-rock fashion show that is their outside porch, you can really enjoy this club. it's got a half-height stage with a fairly decent sound system. The sound guy is very nice and the closet behind the sound booth is a great "green room" if you're feeling a bit anti-social before the show. bonus: wednesday night accoustic chaos hosted by whoever can be a very fun way to lose sleep in the middle of the week, also a great way for newer artists to get their foot in the door of the dallas club scene. also if you're lucky Whit, one of the friendliest guys in DE will be bartending. he's great.
most of the other b clubs fall somewhere in the middle: galaxy club, coyote ugly, dada, etc. they're an okay club in most respects, but they're just not an 'it' club right now. give it time and they may.
obviously no list is complete without mentioning who's at the bottom of the heap.
Club Indigo - i'm sorry, whether it's the horrible sound, or the sound guy making funny comments over the main speakers during band's sets, from all accounts, this club has a long way to go. i've yet to find a band that has something good to say about this club.
anyway, you can comment on our Forums

first blog in a while... sorry to be so out of pocket.
but then again, we have updated the website as well as added mp3s to the forum. so we're pretty excited.
we're currently in Oklahoma City, playing a few shows around town... last night we played at Teddy's in southtown and I think tonight we're playing at the brewry.
sadly, paul was not able to make it on the road this time out because of family/work obligations.
we're having fun, but it's just not the same without Paul. . .
